At 1,036 acres, Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve is one of the largest urban nature preserves in the Unites States. You will find over 12 miles of wooded hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty that will enable you to experience the wonderful natural sights and sounds of this remarkable place. With two designated Alabama Birding Trail sites, Ruffner is a wonderful place to view the variety of birds that can be seen in the Birmingham area. You can also see Ruffner Mountain’s furry, feathery, and scaly inhabitants up close at the Ruffner Mountain “Tree House” nature education center.
